According to SPORT, FC Barcelona have formally asked La Liga for permission to play the entire first half of the 2027-28 season at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuic while major work continues on the Spotify Camp Nou.
The request comes as the club prepares for the installation of the stadium’s roof, a key phase of the redevelopment project that is scheduled to begin in June 2027.
Although construction of the roof is expected to take approximately four and a half months, with completion targeted for mid-October of 2027, Barcelona have opted for a cautious approach.
Rather than risk disruptions caused by potential construction delays, the club has requested to stage all of its home matches during the first half of the season at Montjuic.
La Liga, led by president Javier Tebas, has yet to respond to the proposal.

Barcelona’s plan also takes UEFA regulations into account.
Under UEFA rules, clubs must play all of their league-phase home matches in the same stadium during a single European campaign.
To avoid switching venues midway through the competition, Barcelona intend to host every home fixture during the first half of the season, including Champions League matches, at the Montjuic Stadium.
In addition to installing the new roof, further improvement works around the Camp Nou site are also scheduled during this period.
If approved, the move would mark another return to Montjuic. Barcelona previously played two full seasons there during the redevelopment of Camp Nou in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
The club began the 2025-26 league campaign at Estadi Johan Cruyff for two fixtures and played three games in Montjuic, along with two UEFA Champions League clashes before eventually returning to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.

For the upcoming campaign, however, Barcelona expect to play all of their home matches at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The stadium will first host the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 19, with the opponent still to be confirmed.
Barcelona’s first official home league fixture is scheduled for August 29 or 30 against Rayo Vallecano after the original opener against Athletic Club was postponed due to the participation of players from both teams in the World Cup semifinals.
Meanwhile, construction work at Camp Nou has continued throughout the summer under contractor Limak.
The club’s immediate objective is to open part of the third tier in October, subject to approval from Barcelona City Council. That section will be introduced in phases before reaching full capacity later in the season.
