FC Barcelona are being linked with an increasing number of players as the 2025–26 season reaches its conclusion and clubs across Europe approach the next summer transfer window.
In recent days, one player whose name has once again appeared in the Catalan club’s orbit is Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva, whose contract with Manchester City expires this summer.
It was recently reported that the player, with the help of his agent Jorge Mendes, is pushing to join the Catalan side.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalans have no intention of signing Silva. The 31-year-old, turning 32 in August, is considered past his prime, and his current form in England does not justify prioritizing him over other targets.
Hansi Flick already has ample options in the positions Silva would occupy, leaving the €27 million-rated midfielder outside the club’s plans. Barcelona’s immediate focus remains securing a top striker and a left-footed center-back.
Bernardo Silva could have joined Barcelona back in 2022, when Frenkie de Jong was close to joining Manchester United. Xavi pushed to bring him into his team, but Pep Guardiola did not allow for his departure.
A second opportunity arose in 2023, but it was Ilkay Gundogan who ultimately changed clubs instead. With these past chances missed, and given his age and form, Barcelona appears unlikely to pursue Silva this time around.
