Barcelona continue to scour Europe and indeed the rest of the globe for talented teenagers to recruit to their ranks. Since the arrival of Deco as Sporting Director, the Blaugrana have made it part of their transfer policy to bring in young players, potentially with a view to blooding them in the first team, but also with an eye on selling them on at a profit.
One such example was the €2.5m signing of Roony Bardghji last summer, who looked promising in his meagre opportunities, but seems set to leave this year either on loan or on a permanent deal. Equally, the likes of Mikayil Faye were brought in for around €2m, and sold for close to €11m, and healthy profits were turned on the likes of Julian Araujo and Pau Victor too.
As explained by MD, Barcelona are closely following 18-year-old centre-back Neil Pierre, with a view to a potential move. The Blaugrana have recently held talks with the Danish side over the loan of goalkeeper Diego Kochen, and Pierre has been identified as a name to watch by their scouting team. Pierre, who has dual-nationality between Haiti and the United States, is represented by the same agency as Lucas Bergvall, who Barcelona moved for before he transferred to Tottenham Hotspur, and Pierre is also in the same under-19 side for the USMNT as Kochen.
Arriving in Denmark earlier this year, Pierre came through the ranks at Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union. He played 10 times during their promotion push, and has scored four goals. Tall and imposing, he fits a similar profile to Juwensley Onstein, who was signed in January, and the likes of Mamadou Mbacke, who was previously brought in on loan.
