According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona are planning an important meeting with Ferran Torres next week as they look to clarify the forward’s future following his World Cup heroics with Spain.

The 26-year-old scored the extra-time winner against Argentina to deliver Spain’s second World Cup title, following in the footsteps of Andres Iniesta, whose goal secured the country’s first triumph in 2010.

Like Iniesta, Ferran became the Barcelona player who defined a World Cup final.

Barça want to know Ferran’s intentions

With just one year remaining on his current contract, Ferran has become one of the club’s biggest priorities.

According to the report, Barcelona want to speak directly with the Spain international after he has had time to recover from nearly two months away with the national team and the emotions of winning the World Cup.

The meeting is expected to give club officials a clearer understanding of whether Ferran intends to remain at Camp Nou or is open to a move elsewhere.

PSG continue their pursuit

PSG remain the strongest contenders should Ferran decide to leave.

Luis Enrique is a long-time admirer of the forward, having placed enormous faith in him during his time as Spain manager, and the French champions continue to push for his signing.

However, Barcelona believe Ferran’s value has increased significantly following his performances at the World Cup, meaning any potential transfer would now command a higher fee than before the tournament.

Renewal still on hold

The Blaugrana still view Ferran as an important player for the coming season, particularly as the club continues its search for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

While contract renewal talks are part of the club’s long-term plans, salary cap restrictions mean formal negotiations are not expected to advance until September.

Another factor is a clause in Ferran’s original transfer from Manchester City that would require Barcelona to pay an additional €7-8 million once a contract extension is signed.

Even so, the club’s roadmap regarding the striker is expected to become much clearer after next week’s discussions.

Reward for patience and hard work

Ferran’s success has been built on patience and persistence. Whether starting matches or coming off the bench, he has consistently delivered for both club and country.

Beyond scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final, Ferran also played a decisive role throughout Spain’s campaign.

His assist for Mikel Merino in the victory over Portugal highlighted another aspect of his game, while his consistency throughout the tournament reinforced his importance to Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

Now, after becoming Spain’s latest World Cup hero, Ferran faces another defining moment.

First comes the celebration. Then comes a crucial conversation with Barcelona that could determine where he plays next season, with PSG waiting in the background.
