Hansi Flick is building something special at FC Barcelona. Having taken over the reins from club legend Xavi Hernandez last year, the German tactician has managed to elevate the team to a new level and is on track for a very successful season.
Indeed, Barça have already won the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey this season while they are four points clear of Real Madrid in the La Liga table.
The Catalans have also made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they played out a 3-3 draw in the first leg vs Inter Milan last night.
Given the brilliant job that he has done, Barcelona have been eager to renew Hansi Flick’s contract, with his current one expiring in 2026.
As reported recently, an agreement in principle to extend his deal until 2027 is already in place with only a few final details remaining to be worked out.
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona plan to finalise Flick’s contract extension in the days following the Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan – set for Tuesday – and ahead of El Clasico against Real Madrid on Sunday, 11 May at Montjuic.

El Clasico typically draws high-profile figures from across the football world, and the upcoming edition will be no exception. Pini Zahavi, Flick’s agent and also representative of Robert Lewandowski, will be in Barcelona for the match.
As per the report, Zahavi and his associates will take the opportunity to meet in person with Barcelona’s sporting leadership to finalise the terms of Flick’s new contract.
The agreement will extend Flick’s contract through 2027, with no additional option year, as Flick prefers to approach his projects on a season-by-season basis.
Even though the contract will be ready to sign in the coming week, the official announcement will be held back.
Barcelona want to choose the right moment to make it official, likely once the league title is decided or, if they reach the Champions League final, with enough time before that fixture.
