Pedro ‘Dro’ Hernandez has carved out a place for himself in the Barcelona first-team plans for the ongoing season.
Just 17 years old, the La Masia attacking midfielder was one of a few youngsters to travel to Asia for the pre-season tour, where he got chances and made the most of them.
As such, Dro has been a part of Hansi Flick’s setup since the new campaign kicked off, featuring in the matchday squad for all three La Liga games, although an official debut is yet to happen.
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, given Dro’s rapid rise and growing prominence, Barcelona will now put him on a tailored physical development programme.
The coaching staff want to address the gap they have identified in youth players, ensuring that when they make the jump, they can withstand the physical demands.
Dro’s talent is unquestionable, but the aim is to strengthen his body to cope with the demands of La Liga whenever he is called upon.

The same approach is already being applied to Jofre Torrents. The 18-year-old left-back, who joined the Asian tour after renewing until 2028, has been following a personalised plan to build muscle mass.
Similarly, Marc Bernal worked on his physical robustness during his recovery from a serious injury, with visible results.
Now, Dro will follow a specific plan designed not only to optimise his physical attributes but also to minimise the risk of muscle problems.
The youngster is highly rated by Hansi Flick, who sees him as ready to start making the leap to regular first-team football. As such, he will now be put on a special plan to help his physical development.
