Barcelona set to renew 16-year-old top defensive talent from La Masia | OneFootball

According to SPORT, teenage defensive prodigy Luca Perez will soon sign his first professional contract with FC Barcelona.

An agreement has been reached between all parties already and only the formal signing of the contract remains.

A special player in the making

Signed from Damm in 2018, Luca has now spent eight seasons wearing the Barcelona shirt and has developed into one of La Masia’s most highly regarded defensive prospects.

Tall and physically strong, the 16-year-old centre-back is also comfortable playing out from the back, but his strongest qualities are those of a natural defender. His greatest attributes include marking, defensive security and aerial ability.

Moreover, he also poses a threat in the opposition box during corners, thanks to his instinct and ability to appear at important moments.

At only 16 years old, Luca has already developed into a dressing-room leader. As such, within the club, he is regarded as a footballer with enormous potential.

Targeting trophies

Currently a part of the Blaugrana U-16 setup, Luca has become one of the key players in the team.

This season he has played 25 league matches, starting in 23 of them. He has also scored four goals and made his debut with Juvenil B (U-18).

He and his teammates will host Sant Cugat at the Ciutat Esportiva this weekend in a single-match quarter-final of the U-16 Catalan Championship.

The U-16 side is aiming to complete an excellent season by adding this title after already winning the league and claiming prestigious tournaments such as the MIC.

Luca is deeply committed to Barcelona and feels happy with the confidence shown in him by the club. He has never had doubts about remaining at Barcelona and his next objective is to continue progressing through the ranks and rise to the first team eventually.
