Following the close of the summer transfer window, one of the key priorities for the sporting department of FC Barcelona is securing the contract renewal of Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutchman, whose current deal runs until June 2026, has been in negotiations with the club for some time, though no final agreement has yet been reached. However, sporting director Deco has recently expressed confidence that the matter will soon be resolved.

In a preview of his interview with Mundo Deportivo, Deco addressed the situation, underlining both the player’s commitment and the club’s intention to keep him at the heart of the project.
“We’re talking. Frenkie is really enjoying being here. He has matured on every level, with his family, in the team… if you’re a player with character, you don’t just want to stay in Barcelona for the city, but because you want to compete for titles, and he sees that he can compete for titles here. He sees this and wants to stay. At the club, we see him as a fundamental player for the current project and for the coming years, so I think we’ll get it done.”
The Barcelona official was asked whether this operation can be completed successfully soon, to which he replied:
“Yes, I do.”
FC Barcelona are reportedly aiming to extend De Jong’s contract until 2029, ensuring that one of Hansi Flick’s most important players remains at the core of the squad for years to come.
Sorting out his future would also allow the Dutch midfielder to focus fully on his football as the Catalan giants continue their push for silverware this season.
