Barcelona star backs Real Madrid attacker as national team captain | OneFootball

Barcelona star Jules Koundé has this week thrown his backing behind Real Madrid frontman Kylian Mbappé as France’s national team captain.

Mbappé, for his part, is of course currently working on reestablishing himself as a leading figure in the French camp.

After being repeatedly overlooked by Didier Deschamps amid struggles with life in his new home of Madrid in 2024, the 26-year-old was recalled earlier this year.

As much marked an important development for Les Bleus for a number of reasons.

Not only is Mbappé one of his country’s standout performers on the pitch, but he is also a significant figure in the dressing room.

In fact, the former Paris Saint-Germain goalscorer has acted as France’s captain since back in 2023.

And as alluded to above, one fellow member of Deschamps’ ranks who feels as though Mbappé possesses all of the necesarry qualities to continue in this position is Jules Koundé.

Speaking during an exchange with the media on Wednesday, Barcelona defender Koundé explained:

“Mbappé as captain? He is always there for his teammates, shares the responsibilities and is open to discussions. It’s quite natural for him. He’s someone who by virtue of being the player that he is, naturally inspires respect and recognition.”
