Barcelona star expected to be handed 2nd start of the season vs Valencia | OneFootball

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is viewed as increasingly likely to be afforded his 2nd start in succession this coming weekend.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Dani Olmo as the player in question.

Attacking midfielder Olmo has for his part endured something of a hit-and-miss opening to the new campaign.

Still working towards top form and fitness alike, the 27-year-old was condemned to the bench for each of Barcelona’s first two La Liga fixtures.

Last time out, Olmo was back in from the off, in a trip to Rayo Vallecano.

En route to an eventual 1-1 stalemate, however, the former RB Leipzig standout struggled to make his presence felt.

Such woes had given rise to calls for Fermín López to be reintroduced to the Blaugrana’s starting XI by boss Hansi Flick.

But as alluded to above, as things stand, it is Olmo who is considered the favourite to retain his place.

As per a report from Sport:

‘He is the best positioned to start in the first home game against Valencia on Sunday.’
