A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona boasts the best ‘final third pass success rate’ of any player in Europe’s top leagues this season.

That’s according to statisticians WhoScored, who point towards Frenkie de Jong as the player in question.

Midfielder De Jong has of course spent the last couple of months reestablishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet of boss Hansi Flick.

Owing to a string of standout performances, the former Ajax man has firmly usurped Marc Casadó in the Blaugrana’s engine room pecking order.

De Jong, after an injury-hit opening to the campaign, has now racked up 44 appearances across all competitions.

24 such outings have come in La Liga, including on Thursday night, as Barcelona secured the Spanish top-flight title courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Espanyol.

And as alluded to above, across these fixtures, De Jong has secured for himself status as Europe’s leader in one statistical category.
