Barcelona star reflects on 2026 World Cup triumph, eyes Champions League success | OneFootball

Eight Barcelona players will return to the club later this summer as world champions, after Spain won the 2026 World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Argentina. One of those is Eric Garcia, who made a telling contribution in the final, in what was his only appearance at the tournament.

As per Cadena COPE (via MD), Eric spoke on his mindset throughout the tournament after not featuring until the match against Argentina. He also credited the mentality shown by Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres, whose goal was the only one scored in the final.

“Fortunately or unfortunately, I can include myself, both me and Ferran, we are cured of fears. Our job is to play football, which I think is a privilege. Things, I’ve always said that they can go better, they can go worse, but you always have to be there, with the attitude. And in the end it is no coincidence that the goal that in this case gives us the World Cup was scored by (Torres).

“I had been prepared all this month in case at some point the opportunity had to come and look, in the end it had to come in the final. I had always told the coach that I was ready for whatever I had to do. And to be able to win it, which was everyone’s goal. We were all there to make an impact, whether we had to play or not.”

Eric wants to add Champions League title to his collection

Eric was also asked about the prospect of adding a Champions League winner’s medal to his World Cup one, and he admitted that he is very keen to help Barcelona end their wait for European glory.

“It’s clear that in the end I can’t complain about the record I have to this day. Every player wants to win, win titles and that’s what we’re here for.”
