La Liga giants Barcelona are set to be without the services of a leading member of the club’s midfield ranks in their upcoming Champions League Last-16 tie.
This comes amid confirmation of Frenkie de Jong facing up to an extended incoming spell on the sidelines.
Barcelona announced on Thursday that De Jong suffered an injury setback in training at the Ciutat Esportiva this morning.
The former Ajax man is therefore expected to miss the next five to six weeks of action.
Barcelona will on Friday learn their opponents for the next round of the Champions League.
The Blaugrana, after finishing in the competition’s top-8, are aware that one of Paris Saint-Germain or Newcastle United await them in the Last-16.
De Jong, however, will be forced to watch on from the sidelines, with the two legs of the tie set to take place between March 10th and March 18th.
