Barcelona star was left ‘hurt’ by fan criticism this season | OneFootball

A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was left heavily affected by criticism aimed in his direction by the club’s supporters this season.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Ronald Araújo as the player in question.

The name of stopper Araújo has of course proven an altogether prominent one in the chatter surrounding Barcelona over recent months.

Unfortunately for the Uruguayan, though, as much has come, for the most part, for less than positive reasons.

Amid questions over Araújo’s form and fit in the setup of Hansi Flick since his return from a long-term injury, large sections of the Blaugrana fanbase have turned on the 26-year-old.

After Araújo was singled out for heavy blame for the club’s Champions League exit at the hands of Inter Milan, many, in fact, went as far as to call for him to be sold.

And as much, it would appear, took a heavy toll on the player himself.

As per a report from Sport:

‘He was hurt by the criticism he received after Barça’s elimination in the Champions League semi-finals against Inter Milan and wants to show that he is still one of the best defenders in the world.’
