Despite being closely marked throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal continues to show why he is one of the biggest difference-makers in international football. 

The 18-year-old once again influenced the outcome as Spain defeated France 2-0 in the World Cup semi-final, securing a place in the final where they will face either England or Argentina.

While Yamal’s tournament numbers may not jump off the page, his influence has been impossible to ignore. 

The Barcelona academy graduate has repeatedly unsettled defenders with his movement, pressing and decision-making, proving that his value extends far beyond goals and assists.

Some viewed his words as overconfidence or arrogance, but the Barcelona youngster let his football do the talking on the biggest stage.

Spain’s breakthrough arrived after Yamal’s relentless pressure forced Lucas Digne into a costly mistake inside the penalty area. 

The resulting spot-kick allowed Mikel Oyarzabal to put Spain ahead and seize control of the contest.

Yamal nearly added his name to the scoresheet as well, producing a brilliant finish that beat the French goalkeeper, only for the goal to be ruled out following a marginal offside decision. 

Even without a goal or an assist, his performance showed just why he remains one of Spain’s most dangerous attacking players.

Following Spain’s victory, Yamal returned to social media with another strong message.

After sharing pictures from the win over France, he posted, “New York, we are coming for you,” referencing the city that will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

The message attracted attention, especially considering the discussion around his comments before the semi-final. 

This time, however, there was little room for debate.
