Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal nominated for the 2026 Onze d’Or | OneFootball

FC Barcelona rising superstar Lamine Yamal has once again been nominated for the 2026 Onze d’Or, the prestigious annual award presented by French magazine Onze Mondial to the world’s best footballer.

The Barcelona winger receives the nomination for the second consecutive year after narrowly missing out on the 2025 prize, finishing runner-up to Ousmane Dembele by just 2.5% of the public vote, just like in the Ballon d’Or race.

The 19-year-old sensation enjoyed another fine campaign last season with Barcelona and Spain, finishing as one of the world’s standout performers, and he now returns as one of the leading contenders for the Onze d’Or as well as Ballon d’Or.

Unlike the Ballon d’Or, the Onze d’Or is decided entirely by supporters, who vote for their winner through Onze Mondial’s official website.

Fresh from helping Spain win the World Cup, Lamine enters this year’s race with arguably his strongest chance yet of claiming the individual honour.

Lamine will be up against some of the biggest names in football, with Harry Kane, Dembele, Kylian Mbappe, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, and Michael Olise among the nominees.

A trophy with strong Barcelona history

The Onze d’Or has been awarded since 1976, when Dutch forward Rob Rensenbrink became its inaugural winner.

Barcelona players have enjoyed considerable success in the award’s history. Lionel Messi remains the most decorated recipient with four victories, while several other former Barça stars have also lifted the trophy.

Some of the former Barcelona players who have won the honour include: Diego Maradona (2), Thierry Henry (2), Ronaldo (2), Ronaldinho (1), Hristo Stoichkov (1), and Antoine Griezmann (1).

Three Barcelona Players in World XI Voting

Alongside the individual awards, supporters can also vote for the World XI.

And, in this category, Barcelona are represented by three players: Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal.

In previous editions, other Barça players to feature in the World XI voting have included Samuel Umtiti, Jordi Alba, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo and Messi.

With another exceptional season behind him and a World Cup winner’s medal now on his resume, Lamine heads into this year’s fan vote as one of the strongest candidates yet to add the Onze d’Or to his growing collection of honours.
