Barcelona to hold fresh contract talks with key midfielder’s camp after international break | OneFootball

With the transfer window behind them, FC Barcelona have turned their attention to closing the contract renewal of Frenkie de Jong, whose current deal expires in 2026.

The 28-year-old is seen as an integral member of Hansi Flick’s setup, and as such, it is a priority for the sporting management, led by Deco, to secure his renewal at the earliest possible, after past delays due to issues with his former agent.

New talks on the horizon

As such, SPORT reports that following the international break, Barcelona are expected to resume contacts with De Jong’s representatives to, once and for all, begin negotiations for his contract renewal until 2029.

After the initial meeting that his new representatives held with Deco a few weeks ago, the Blaugrana are approaching the situation calmly and without any haste, as there is certainty that the player wants to renew and has expressed this publicly.

Arranging a meeting with De Jong’s previous agent, Ali Dursun, had proven complex and slowed down the process, while interferences from third parties had created further complications.

But the midfielder has since parted ways with Dursun and has brought in a new team of lawyers to represent him.

As per the report, the first contacts with his new representatives were very positive, and they are expected to resume soon. During that initial meeting, no formal negotiations took place, as the parties did not know each other, and it was merely an informal introduction.

Even so, there is calm at Barcelona knowing that, for the first time, De Jong and his team are moving in the same direction.

Furthermore, the meeting with Deco was especially valued for its sensibility and transparency, far from the gestures and tensions that in the past had strained negotiations to the extreme.

Following the international break, discussions are expected to continue, although nothing has been scheduled at the moment.

But, with the De Jong’s clear willingness to continue, and with new representation working for him, there is full confidence that this time the renewal negotiations will succeed.
