Barcelona told they can sign €29m striker as Ferran Torres replacement

Barcelona have struggled to sign a new striker this summer, and the only senior one they have left could end up leaving soon. Ferran Torres was expected to stay after Robert Lewandowski departed upon the expiry of his contract, but in recent weeks, he has been strongly linked with a move away from the Spotify Camp Nou.

In the event that Torres leaves, Barcelona would surely have to sign another striker on top of the one they are already seeking. In that case, it would be a cheaper option that sporting director Deco goes for, which is where Fisnik Asllani could come into the equation.

Asllani had been on the verge of joining RB Leipzig, but according to Sport, he’s stopped that operation for the time being, having become aware that a move to Barcelona could be possible. The Hoffenheim striker will prioritise joining Hansi Flick’s squad this summer, which is why he is prepared to delay any decision on his future.

Asllani can be signed for €29m

Torres’ departure would likely net Barcelona a fee in the region of €50m, taking into account that he has less than a year remaining on his contract. By comparison, Asllani can be signed for €29m – the value of the release clause in his Hoffenheim contract – which would represent a nice net gain for the Catalans to put towards possible further signings.

Asllani is an interesting option for Barcelona, although they would surely prefer not to lose Torres this summer. The Spain international has been a fantastic squad player over the last 2-3 seasons since being primarily used as a striker, and replacing his goals would be much easier said than done.

It remains to be seen how the situations of Torres and Asllani play out over the coming weeks, but it would not be a surprise if Barcelona went for the latter if the former ended up being sold.
