The next edition of El Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid is set to be held on the 11th of May and is scheduled to be hosted by Barcelona, who are currently in their temporary home of Montjuïc.
Having a monumental fixture like El Clásico in a relatively small stadium like Montjuïc poses a problem for the club, as it greatly restricts the possible ticket revenue from the match, but Barcelona reportedly have a solution.
As per Diario AS, the club are toying with the idea of moving the fixture outside of Spain should their iconic Camp Nou stadium not be ready in time for May.
There is a chance that Camp Nou may only be able to hold 60,000 fans come May, and there is even a possibility that delays may prevent it from being open at all, and Barcelona seem unwilling to let the tie be played in Montjuïc.
While it the iconic fixture could possibly be played outside of Spain, reports dictate that it would still be played within Europe, which might slightly ease the pain of Barcelona fans, who would rightly feel angry at their club’s biggest fixture being moved away from home.
This is all just one big rumour so far, and the club haven’t yet informed the league or the RFEF of any intention to move the fixture, but it is worth keeping an eye on the situation to see what solution the club can manage.
