Something of a U-turn regarding the club’s plans for the summer transfer window has been noted at La Liga giants Barcelona this week.
This comes amid claims on the part of Diario Sport that signing a new goalkeeper is no longer a priority for the Blaugrana.
The subject of potential reinforcements between the posts has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several weeks now.
As much came amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the futures of all of Marc-André ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczęsny, and Iñaki Peña.
The shot-stopper most heavily linked with Barcelona has been Espanyol no.1 Joan García, a man in-demand across the continent owing to a spectacular season in 2024/25.
Some outlets, in fact, have gone as far as to suggest that an agreement between the parties is on the verge of being reached.
Safe to say, then, that the latest word stemming from the Spanish press over the last 24 hours may come as something of a surprise.
As per a report from Sport, after the pair sat down for a meeting late last week, Hansi Flick sent a clear message to Blaugrana sporting director Deco, as follows:
‘With Ter Stegen once one hundred percent recovered from his knee injury ready to return to the starting line-up, Flick does not consider it important to sign a goalkeeper. This is how he transferred it to Deco, who agrees with his coach.’
Instead, the pair, it is claimed, concluded that the signing of a new left winger should be the absolute priority.
