The January transfer window is only a few days away and it promises to be a fairly quiet one as far as FC Barcelona are concerned.

After all, the Catalan heavyweights are not planning any major moves in the winter market and their sole focus is securing the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in La Liga.

While reports have suggested that Deco and Hansi Flick have decided not to let any players leave, it has not stopped from rival clubs taking an interest in some Barça stars.

Girona want Eric Garcia

After reports emerged earlier this week claiming that Getafe are interested in Pablo Torre, now another player struggling for minutes, Eric Garcia, is attracting suitors.

Indeed, as per a report from journalist Rodra P, Barcelona’s Catalan rivals Girona FC have set their sights on Eric Garcia for the upcoming January transfer window.

The versatile Barcelona defender has not had his best season so far, struggling with injuries and a lack of minutes under Flick. He has played only 541 minutes across 13 matches in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

And, Girona are hoping to capitalise on the situation and sign Garcia, who had a memorable spell on loan at the Catalan club last season. In fact, Michel’s side, who are also facing difficulties this season, particularly in defence, view his signing as a priority.

It must be remembered that Girona came very close to re-signing Garcia during the summer transfer window. The player was ready to move to Girona, but the long-term injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen changed things.

The current situation is very different, with Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez firmly established as the first-choice central defenders, alongside the expected returns of Araujo and Christensen.

As a result, Garcia’s departure has become a real possibility, and Girona are already working on the deal. They also have the player’s willingness, as he would only leave Barcelona to reunite with Michel.

The only obstacle Barcelona may present to the move is their view of Eric more as a defensive midfielder than as a central defender. The coming days will be crucial in determining the outcome.
