At a time when Barcelona are building towards a new era, uncertainty continues to surround one of their most important figures, namely, Robert Lewandowski.
The experienced striker is approaching the end of his current contract, and despite his importance to the squad, there has been no clear progress regarding a renewal.
What was once expected to be a straightforward extension has now turned into a situation filled with hesitation, unanswered questions, and growing external interest.
Initially, Barcelona’s idea was to offer Lewandowski a new deal, but under revised terms – a reduced salary and a slightly more supportive role within the squad.
However, as things stand, that proposal has not been properly communicated or finalised, leaving the player in a position where he is forced to consider alternatives.
Insight into the situation has been provided by Sebastian Staszewski, who has closely followed the striker’s career.
Speaking about Lewandowski’s mindset, he emphasised that financial gain is not the primary driver at this stage.
“Robert isn’t pushing for money at the moment. He knows that in Saudi Arabia or in the MLS, for example, at Chicago Fire, he could earn a lot more.
“What he is waiting for is a clear signal from Barcelona: what role will he play in the team next season?”
Expanding further on Barcelona’s internal uncertainty, Staszewski pointed to the club’s financial limitations and how they are impacting decision-making.

“The problem is that the club, due to its financial constraints, still doesn’t know what moves it will be able to make.
“Will they be able to bring in a young striker to compete with him or to be his successor? Or will Robert continue to be the undisputed spearhead of the project?”
From the player’s perspective, accepting a reduced role without a clear sporting plan would be a risk, especially when other leagues are offering both financial and competitive opportunities.
Another key detail is that, despite internal discussions, Lewandowski has not yet been formally informed about any change in status.
That silence has only added to the uncertainty surrounding his future.
“Lewandowski wants to finish his career at the highest level, and for him, Barcelona is the ideal place, but he needs to know whether the club is counting on him as the key player he has been up to now.
“It’s not just about the length of the contract, but about the sporting project,” explains Staszewski.
Ultimately, the situation is heading towards a decisive phase. Meetings between his agent, Pini Zahavi, and the Barcelona board, led by Joan Laporta and Deco, are expected to take place soon.
“The coming weeks will be decisive,” he said.
“There will be meetings between his agent, Pini Zahavi, and Joan Laporta’s board to decide whether to activate that extension clause or renegotiate the terms so that both parties are comfortable with the short-term future,” he concluded.
