Spanish rumour site Fichajes is claiming that Barcelona are keen on Joao Pedro, the Chelsea striker who has been one of very few transfer successes for the Blues in recent years.

The Catalan club are watching the former Brighton man, who has 25 goal contributions in his debut season for the Blues.

Robert Lewandowski is almost at the end, and Hansi Flick’s team need to try and find a long term replacement for the legendary target man. Joao Pedro has that same blend of technicality and physicality, and could enhance his status further with a strong World Cup for Brazil.

Chelsea unlikely to sanction major transfer for summer success

This deal makes some sense – we can see JP being the sort of player Barcelona would like a lot. But they don’t have the finances to pay the £80m or more that Chelsea would surely be demanding right now.

The only way this happens is further down the line, when the Brazilian’s value has come further into Barca’s reach, and if Chelsea become desperate to sell for financial reasons.

This summer? No chance.
