A recent update from SPORT suggests Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal is progressing well in his recovery and could be available, at least in the squad, for the crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.

It must be noted that Bernal picked up an ankle sprain during last week’s La Liga clash at the Metropolitano, an injury that initially ruled him out for around ten days.

At the time, it looked like a setback that would keep him sidelined during one of the most important phases of the season. However, his recovery has been quicker than expected.

Bernal is recovering well

As per the outlet, Barcelona’s medical staff have accelerated his rehabilitation programme.

In fact, Bernal has been undergoing intensive physiotherapy along with tailored individual sessions, focusing on regaining mobility and sharpness.

While he has not yet rejoined full group training, the signs are encouraging.

With Hansi Flick dealing with a stretched midfield, every available option matters.

In that context, Barcelona are going through a difficult moment, with physical fatigue and injuries forcing constant adjustments in selection.

The situation is particularly delicate when looking at other key names.

For that matter, Pedri remains a doubt for the Espanyol clash after his recent knock, while Frenkie de Jong, despite returning to training, is not expected to be ready for a full 90-minute performance.

A timely return

This is why Bernal’s potential return, even if it is next week, is extremely valuable.

Even if he is not ready to start, simply having him on the bench gives Flick an additional tactical option.

As per the outlet, the coaching staff is approaching the situation with utmost caution.

It means there is no intention to rush him unnecessarily, but there is also a clear awareness that this is a moment where every available player can make a difference.

There is still time before the final decision is made, and the coming days will be crucial in determining whether he makes the matchday list.

But as things stand, optimism is growing regarding his return.
