On Tuesday night, FC Barcelona confirmed that midfielder Gavi had undergone arthroscopic surgery on his knee and would now be sidelined for a period of four to five months.

Initially, it was expected that Gavi would be out for only a few weeks, but the issue turned out to be more serious, and he now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

It came as a devastating blow for the young midfielder, who had been sidelined close to a year not very long ago due to an ACL injury.

Now, according to journalist Helena Condis on COPE, Gavi has received support from Spain manager Luis de la Fuente and the La Roja director of football operations, Aitor Karanka.

As reported earlier today, the 21-year-old midfield prodigy has been left devastated by the injury setback.

The La Masia graduate is feeling down emotionally, and as such, both De la Fuente and Karanka reached out to the player via a phone call in an effort to lift up his spirits.

Gavi’s five-month recovery timeline puts his approximate return time around February next year, provided there are no relapses or setbacks.

It jeopardises his place in the Spain squad for the FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the summer next year, considering that he will have only a couple of months to recover his rhythm and prove his fitness.

It is a difficult situation for the young midfielder, who was set to have a key role in Hansi Flick’s plans this season after he was slowly reintegrated into the squad last term after his lengthy layoff due to an ACL injury.
