For the 2026-27 season, Hansi Flick is not going to have any dearth of options for the midfield, as he would have up to seven players available for the three midfield slots. In fact, he can face the problem of overabundance, and as a result, the Catalan club is looking for a way out for one of these midfielders, Marc Casado.
Even if the Spaniard ends up leaving, competition for the three midfield positions is going to be quite tough, with highly competent players like Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, Gavi, and Marc Bernal all present in the Blaugrana team. Furthermore, players like Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen can also play in the midfield if the situation requires.
In such a situation, it would have been appealing for one of the younger midfielders to look for another club, where he would get more playing time, and thus continue with his growth and development. However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, this is not the case with Bernal, who has enjoyed interest from top European teams, particularly from the Premier League, but who remains fully committed to Barcelona.
Despite a serious injury early in his career, the player’s growth in the last few years has been phenomenal, and clubs, including the likes of AS Roma, Al-Nassr, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal, who had gathered information on him, were highly impressed by his development.
Meanwhile, Barcelona themselves also have no plans of parting ways with the young midfielder. Despite the serious injury he suffered early in the 2024-25 season, the Catalan side decided to give him a long-term contract, which binds him to the Blaugrana club till 2029, with a €500 million release clause.
