Fresh off their domestic treble, Barcelona are already planning for their next big challenge, with the first trophy of the 2026 season—the Spanish Super Cup—on the horizon.

After officially being presented with the La Liga title at home against Villarreal, the Blaugrana are set to return to competitive action in Saudi Arabia, where the Super Cup will once again be held in January.

The format of the Spanish Super Cup features four teams: the winners and runners-up of both La Liga and the Copa del Rey. With only one match left in the league, the four clubs for next year’s edition are confirmed: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Athletic Club.

Following Atletico Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Real Betis and Athletic Club’s narrow 0-1 win over Valencia, the final standings have sealed the pairings.

As La Liga champions, Barcelona will once again face Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club, who finished fourth in the table, in one of the semi-finals. The other semi-final will be a capital clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Not the first semi-final

This won’t be unfamiliar territory for Hansi Flick’s team. In fact, Barça faced Athletic Club in the same round of this year’s edition, defeating them 2-0.

That victory set the stage for an unforgettable final against Real Madrid, which ended in a resounding 5-2 win for the Catalans.

With that win, Barcelona kicked off what turned out to be a dream domestic campaign, later adding the Copa del Rey and La Liga titles to complete a clean sweep in Spain.

For what it is worth, there is added intrigue in next season’s semi-final. Ernesto Valverde knows Barça well, having coached them in the past, while Hansi Flick’s tactical evolution has turned the Blaugrana into a high-scoring, disciplined unit.

However, Barcelona’s summer business will largely dictate how the team will shape up heading into the new season.
