Uncertainty around the future of Wojciech Szczesny has added a layer of tension within the Barcelona camp, at least as far as the goalkeeping position is concerned.

The veteran goalkeeper has enjoyed an excellent season at Barça after coming back from retirement. However, whether or not he will continue for another season depends on various factors, including his wife.

Barcelona, therefore, have been linked with moves for a few goalkeepers in the market, including the likes of Joan Garcia and Emiliano Martinez.

Barcelona’s plan for the goalkeeping department

According to MARCA, Barcelona have drawn a clear roadmap for the goalkeeping department, even amid uncertainty surrounding Szczesny’s future.

The report suggests Barça’s plans will largely revolve around Szczesny and his stance on a potential renewal.

This means the Catalans will only go after a new goalkeeper if Szczesny refuses to renew his contract and retires from professional football.

Barcelona’s endeavours in the market will also depend on the list of options available.

This is important considering the fact that both Garcia and Martinez, two players who have been linked with a move to Barcelona, may cost a fortune.

The club, therefore, are banking on Szczesny and are hoping that the Pole will continue in Catalonia for another season.

The report does suggest Szczesny will agree to Barcelona’s offer and stay on as an alternative for Marc-Andre ter Stegen next season.

The Catalans have offered Szczesny a one-year deal with an option to extend the contract for another year. Whether or not he agrees to these terms remains to be seen.
