Barcelona’s tensions with captain’s agents could hamper pursuit of €50 million-rated winger

Barcelona are clear on one point: they need to sign a top-level winger this summer. With Nico Williams no longer an option, the names currently on the table are complicated.

Luis Diaz, the priority target, is expensive, and Bayern Munich are pushing hard. Marcus Rashford remains under consideration, but has not generated full consensus within the club.

Among the alternatives being monitored are Rafael Leao of AC Milan and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.

Barcelona manager Flick likes Lookman

According to SPORT, Lookman is a player that appeals to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, but optimism is low due to current tensions between the club and the player’s representatives.

Lookman has spent years trying to make the leap from Atalanta to a top-tier Champions League club, but no move has materialised so far.

He is a natural winger, fast, direct, and with an eye for goal, and can play across all attacking positions. That versatility is highly valued by Barcelona.

Atalanta are open to negotiating a transfer for less than €50 million, as Lookman’s contract runs until 2027 and remains unrenewed. Tottenham Hotspur are also strongly interested.

The major obstacle

However, as per the report, there is a major obstacle for Barcelona: Lookman shares an agent with the Catalans’ current captain, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

With tensions rising around the German goalkeeper’s future at the club – he is determined to stay – an uncomfortable situation could arise that might negatively affect Barça’s relationship with Lookman’s camp.

At this stage, Barcelona are merely monitoring the player’s situation, as they are with several other wingers, but have not taken concrete steps.

Given its strategic importance, Barcelona expect the negotiations for a new winger, regardless of the target, to be long and complex, with a resolution likely to come no sooner than August.
