Barney Stewart has addressed mounting links to West Brom, calling the transfer noise “insane” amid suggestions he could be on the move to the Championship.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, West Brom have had multiple offers rejected for the Falkirk striker, including a seven-figure bid. Celtic and other Championship clubs have been credited with interest, while the London-born 22-year-old has been tipped for a shock Scotland World Cup call-up.
Speaking at the Scottish Football Writers’ Awards, Stewart said it is not for him to decide. He noted he has been in the professional game only a season and a half, that rumours are new to him, and that he plans to enjoy the summer while any talks happen in the background. He added that any move would be a huge step and a quick rise, but for now it remains speculation.
Stewart was in QPR’s youth system before moving to Scotland for a scholarship at Heriot-Watt University near Edinburgh. He completed a Sports Science degree while starring in the East of Scotland League, scoring more than 40 goals and winning promotion, which prompted Falkirk to sign him in 2024.
He spent the first half of this season on loan at Dunfermline, returned to Falkirk and hit a hat-trick against Hibernian. Across both clubs he scored 18 goals in 33 appearances. Stewart has represented Scotland under-21s and qualifies through his father.
