The Tykes are keen on building a squad to compete at the top of League One, but ownership haven't yet spent a significant amount of money that they've accumulated from recent player sales to build a squad capable of doing so.

New boss Conor Hourihane has so far added four new players to his ranks, with goalkeeper Murphy Cooper and full-back Nathaniel Ogbeta joining on loan from Queens Park Rangers and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

Permanent business has also been scarce, with forwards Reyes Cleary and David McGoldrick being the two permanent additions that make up the four signings for Barnsley thus far.

Now with interest in some of the club's key players hotting up, and frustrations at getting players in, it could well be a very busy few weeks for the Yorkshire-based outfit.

FLW rounds up all the latest news coming out of Oakwell...

Josh Koroma deal still not completed

A saga that's been dragging on for a long time is Josh Koroma's seemingly imminent move to Oakwell, following his departure from Huddersfield Town at the end of his contract.

Koroma scored 11 goals in 37 League One outings for the Terriers last term, but his inconsistencies saw him depart the club after six years at the John Smith's Stadium.

The forward has been at the club's home ground in the last week, but a deal to bring him to the club is still yet to be completed, according to The Barnsley Chronicle.

The reason for the hold-up on the deal is currently unknown, but it seems like the 26-year-old is still on the verge of becoming Hourihane's fifth signing of the summer, despite the delay.

Luca Connell Wycombe Wanderers bid accepted

In another less than positive update for Barnsley supporters, captain Luca Connell's potential move to League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers has advanced, after the Chairboys' third bid for the 24-year-old was accepted, according to The Bucks Free Press.

The beaten League One play-off semi-finalists have been busy already this summer, and are looking to splash the cash once again by bringing the Tykes' skipper to Adams Park.

However, talks between the two parties hit a snag on Thursday, according to The Bucks Free Press, as a bid in excess of £1m is said to have been turned down, as per The Barnsley Chronicle.

Despite the double setback, Connell remained a top target for Wycombe, and the Buckinghamshire outfit have now reportedly agreed a £1.3m fee for the midfielder, who is now set to swap the red of Barnsley for the light and dark blue quarters.

Barnsley won't budge on £5m valuation of Davis Keillor-Dunn

Another player who has been attracting plenty of interest from other clubs is star striker Davis Keillor-Dunn, who has been of interest to plenty of Championship sides after his exploits last season.

The 27-year-old joined the Yorkshire side from Mansfield Town last summer, quickly establishing himself as one of the best strikers in League One, netting 18 goals in his first season at Oakwell.

Naturally, interest has been sparked after this stellar debut campaign for the Tykes, but the club has reportedly set a sizable valuation for their prized asset, should anyone wish to buy him.

Keillor-Dunn will cost any potential suitor more than £5m, according to the latest update from The Barnsley Chronicle, and Hourihane's side will not budge on this valuation, as they look to deter interest in their star man.

David McGoldrick delighted after signing for the Tykes

Rookie boss Hourihane reunited with one of his former Ireland teammates this week, as he brought free agent McGoldrick to the club following his departure from Notts County.

The 37-year-old was delighted to get the deal over the line, telling the club's official website: “I’m delighted to sign for Barnsley. It’s a massive Club with great history.

“I’ve played at Oakwell Stadium many times and always loved the passion from the fans and hope I can bring smiles and good times to the fans and Club.”

The veteran striker was the Yorkshire side's fourth addition of the summer, and arrives after a prolific spell in League Two with the Magpies, as he looks to once again show his worth at League One level.
