Bayer Leverkusen have opened talks with Olympique de Marseille regarding a potential transfer for Facundo Medina (27), according to reports in Le Phocéen.
Whilst no agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs, OM’s management are not ruling out the possibility of their Argentine defender leaving. However, they have no intention of selling him off cheaply and are demanding a fee of €20m – roughly the same amount they spent to sign Medina from RC Lens last summer – before agreeing to let him go.
For Leverkusen, their interest in the Villa Fiorito-born player is nothing new, as they were already targeting him whilst he was playing for the Sang et Or. Having arrived on the Canebière a year ago, Medina has made 26 appearances in all competitions, providing just a single assist.
It is important to put this season into context, as the Argentine international – who has 14 caps – has had to contend with several fitness setbacks over the past twelve months.
