The future of Max Eberl at FC Bayern remains one of the most exciting management topics of the summer. Although the sporting director is still under contract until 2027, a long-term collaboration appears to be anything but assured. According to the latest reports, a decisive probation test is already underway in the background
As reported by Sport BILD, FC Bayern’s supervisory board will only decide on Eberl’s future after the end of the summer transfer period. According to the report, the decisive meeting will take place at the end of August, when all arrivals and departures can be assessed
For the 52-year-old, the transfer summer will therefore be a kind of fateful phase
In addition to potential new additions, the main focus will be on streamlining the squad, with Eberl tasked with getting several loan players off the payroll permanently
These include João Palhinha, Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza in particular. While concrete options are already emerging for Palhinha with Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting Lisbon, the situation with Boey and Zaragoza is much more complicated
The sales in particular could become an important internal assessment criterion, as the supervisory board continues to demand a healthy balance between investment and income
Uli Hoeneß recently made it clear that there are still reservations within the Bayern management, with the honorary president putting the chances of Eberl remaining at the club in the long term at just „60:40“
Even though Hoeneß has recently adopted a more conciliatory tone, not all of the sporting director’s decisions are considered to be uncontroversial internally

According to Sport BILD, Eberl is now actively responding to the discussions and is said to have pointed out successful personnel decisions at the most recent supervisory board meeting
In particular, the signings of Michael Olise and Luis Díaz were highlighted, with both transfers turning out to be direct hits and among the biggest success stories of the past season
With this reference, Eberl is obviously trying to make it clear what part he has played in the team’s positive sporting development
If Eberl succeeds in implementing the desired transfers, generating revenue and developing the squad in a targeted manner, his chances of a long-term future at Säbener Straße will increase considerably
If, on the other hand, important personnel fail to materialize or the hoped-for sales do not materialize, the discussion about his future could pick up speed again
One thing is certain: hardly anyone at FC Bayern is under more scrutiny this summer than Max Eberl. The sporting director seems to know this – and is already actively fighting to keep him.
