Harry Kane has apparently made his first landmark decision. While FC Bayern are working on a contract extension, the Englishman has clearly rejected a move to FC Barcelona
As the Catalan newspaper El Nacional reports, the 32-year-old has effectively ruled out a possible transfer to the Catalans. The main reason for this is said to be the Spanish top club’s tight financial situation, with Barcelona unable to afford the rumoured annual salary of around 30 million euros
Over the past few weeks, Kane has repeatedly been touted as a possible candidate for the long-term successor in the Blaugrana’s attacking midfield, but the latest developments should finally put this scenario to bed
This is an important decision for FC Bayern, because while a door to foreign countries is closing, the focus in Munich is now fully on its own future plans
Although Kane’s contract still runs until 2027, those responsible at Säbener Straße are actively pushing for an extension. Internally, there is a clear desire to create planning certainty at an early stage and prevent any potential unrest surrounding the top striker from arising in the first place
According to information from within the club, talks are set to become concrete in the near future. BILD reporter Christian Falk also confirmed in the Bayern Insider podcast: „The time is now slowly approaching. Talks are set to begin.“
A further indication: Close confidants of the player have recently been at Bayern games more often – a sign that the talks are being prepared in the background

Despite fundamentally positive signals, it is clear that an extension will not be a foregone conclusion. Kane is already one of the top earners in the squad, and a potential contract extension is also likely to entail financial adjustments
Bayern traditionally weigh up long-term contracts at an advanced footballing age very carefully, and the balance between sporting value and economic sense will be crucial
Key players for Bayern’s future Regardless of any contractual issues, the sporting importance of the Englishman remains undisputed. Since his transfer, Kane has shaped Munich’s attacking play and consistently delivered at the highest level
This is precisely why the goal is clearly defined: FC Bayern wants to keep its top striker for the long term – and has taken an important step in this direction by rejecting FC Barcelona.
