Various fan groups in Germany, including those of Bayern Munich, are calling for VAR to be abolished in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal.
According to Abendzeitung, fan scenes from several clubs across the German divisions have published statement which reads:
"In the first round of the DFB Pokal now getting underway, we'll see football as it should be played: without VAR, and therefore authentic, immediate and full of emotion.
“We want to return to this state permanently and are therefore calling for the abolition of the Video Assistant Referee in German football.”
Bayern's Südkurve had circulated the statement in an email, which also provided some background on the initiative:
“There are currently rumours that some club executives are also becoming increasingly unhappy with it [VAR].
"They would even be prepared to submit a motion to the DFB to abolish the video review altogether, or at least significantly restrict its use”.
The fan groups want to give the officials in question “backing,” as the Südkurve put it in its statement.
Most recently, FC Augsburg, with managing director Michael Ströll speaking publicly, came out against VAR.
The Südkurve even gave the recipients of the email the opportunity to show their support by signing the statement.
