Bayern Munich have hit a significant roadblock in their pursuit of Anthony Gordon, with the German giants reportedly unwilling to pay what Newcastle United are demanding for the winger.

Despite Vincent Kompany identifying the England international as a priority signing to freshen up his attacking options, a substantial gap in valuation remains between Newcastle and Bayern.

Newcastle have placed a €92 million (£80m) price tag on the 25-year-old, who is under contract at St James’ Park until 2030.

Negotiations are further complicated by a 15% sell-on clause owed to Everton. This obliges Newcastle to maintain a high asking price to ensure a viable profit for reinvestment, leaving Eddie Howe’s side with little room for compromise.

While Bayern remain a prestigious destination, the Bavarian hierarchy are hesitant to sanction another major outlay following several windows of heavy spending.

Bayern’s hesitation is rooted in a strict ‘no-debt’ transfer policy, recently reiterated by president Uli Hoeneß.

Having already invested heavily in stars such as Harry Kane and Luis Díaz in recent windows, the Bundesliga champions are reluctant to sanction another nine-figure package once wages and signing bonuses are factored in.

On the pitch, Gordon’s profile justifies the interest: he recorded 17 goals and five assists this season, with a work rate that perfectly suits Kompany’s high-pressing system.

While the winger is reportedly open to a fresh challenge, Newcastle remain in a position of strength.

Unless Bayern bridge the current valuation gap, they risk losing out on Gordon to other interested Premier League rivals or seeing him remain on Tyneside for the upcoming season.
