Bayern Munich interested in Barcelona defender – but move ruled out for now

Barcelona have not ruled out making a significant sale this summer, as it would allow for extra signings to be made. Of those in Hansi Flick’s plans, Jules Kounde appears to be the most likely to be considered for an exit, with club bosses increasingly open to allowing his departure to happen if their valuation is met by any interested parties.

In recent weeks, it’s been reported that Kounde has been offered to Premier League clubs via intermediaries, and while a move to England would be most likely at this stage, Christian Falk has confirmed that Bayern Munich are interested in the France international. However, the Bavarians have no plans to make a move until they part ways with at least a couple of right-backs already on their books.

“They like the player and have followed his progress, but there is no option at the moment to buy him right now, as they have to sell players. As I’ve mentioned previously, Sacha Boey is still on the list. They have too many players available in this position; Konrad Laimer can play it, as can Josip Stanišić. So, if FC Bayern can sell Boey, perhaps they can make a move for Koundé. But, at the moment, there is no opportunity to do so. Givairo Read is obviously another name the club has looked at for the right-back position. But if they can’t sell anyone here, it’s getting difficult.”

Barcelona stay makes sense for Kounde – for now

It’s definitely true that Kounde had a very poor 2025-26 season on an individual level, and this has led to questions about whether he should still be Barcelona’s starting right-back. For now, there have been no serious links to replacement, so the Catalan club appear willing to retain his services for another season, but if he fails to return to his best level over the next 12 months, a sale would come under serious consideration.

It must also be noted that Kounde leaving this summer would allow Barcelona to spend big on a new centre-back, while also being able to sort a replacement. While this would be tempting, the plan for now is to keep faith with the former Sevilla man.
