Bayern Munich reflect on disappointing results against Inter and Borussia Dortmund | OneFootball

Saturday night’s 2-2 draw between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund produced little beyond frustration in the mind of the Bundesliga leaders. Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Müller and head coach Vincent Kompany were left to rue the missed opportunities after the match. A game that the record champions should have won based on the xG slipped through their fingers.

“It was a game of missed opportunities,” Müller told Sky Germany afterwards. “I could have scored [in the 40th minute]. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that Emré [Can] was on the ground and that cancelled out the offside. I could have taken the ball and scored the 1-0. A 1-0 lead against Dortmund at home might have given us more adrenaline.“

“We’re just not managing to be efficient [in front of goal] at the moment,” Kimmich added in his own post match interview. “Why is it that we have to go to extreme lengths to score when [Dortmund] convert the first two half-chances of the game? If we miss that many chances again, we won’t make the [Champions League] semi finals [with a win against Inter Milan] on Wednesday.“

“I’m not exaggerating when I say that we’ve produced 50 shots on goal [in the last two games against Dortmund and Inter],” Kompany noted at the post match press conference. “[And] that’s against two teams that are in the Champions League quarter-finals. The mentality and belief is there. Despite our setbacks, we’re still dangerous and can take something from this.”
