Bayern Munich became the first European team to defeat a South American side after a 2-1 win over Boca Juniors.

The Bundesliga side were quickly on top against Boca in Miami and thought they had taken the lead in the eighth minute when Michael Olise scored directly for a corner. The goal was initially given but overturned by VAR due to to Sèrge Gnabry very obviously wrestling Agustín Marchesín to the ground.

Bayern's momentum continued though and they took the lead in the 18th minute when a cross from the right fell to Harry Kane to tuck the ball away.

Boca did well to go into the break only one goal down with Bayern missing chances while still dominating possession.

The Argentinian team equalised in the 66th minute with an excellent goal. Alan Velasco released Miguel Merentiel down the right hand side and the Uruguyan past Josip Stanisic before firing past Manuel Neuer.

Bayern took time to respond to Boca's equaliser with the Argentinian side doing their best to keep Vincent Kompany's side at bay.

That resistance was broken in the 84th minute with the ball bouncing around the Boca box before Kane was able to lay the ball off to Olise. The former Crystal Palace then curled his effort past Marchesín to restore his side's lead.

Bayern almost made it 3-1 soon after a one-two between Konrad Laimer and Thomas Müller but Laimer was just offside when he received the ball.

In the end, it was a deserved win for Bayern who have booked their spot into the qualifying round ahead of their final game against Benfica. Boca meanwhile will be looking to bounce back against Auckland City.
