Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin: Team news and predicted line-up

After sealing a quarter-final berth in the Champions League, Bundesliga action returns for Bayern Munich as they welcome Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Bayern would see the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in their last league outing as a missed opportunity to extend their lead further at the top of the table, being nine points clear of the chasing pack Borussia Dortmund. The Bavarians will hope to avoid any more slip-ups in their campaign with just eight games to go, and dropping points would mean handing their rivals a chance at the title race.

The Bundesliga leaders proved to be too good for Atalanta in the Champions League Round of 16, as the German side prevailed with a 10-2 scoreline on aggregate over the two legs.

Vincent Kompany will miss Luis Díaz for this match as he picked up a red card in the clash versus Die Werkself. Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich are set to continue their respective recovery paths. Jonas Urbig is in line to feature in between the sticks. Michael Olise, Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry are set to operate behind striker Harry Kane in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Union Berlin have pulled themselves well clear of the relegation threat at this point of the season, sitting ninth in the league standings with 31 points across the board. Following successive defeats against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Werder Bremen, Die Eisernen found relief when Jeong Woo-yeong’s added-time goal helped them grab the three points from Freiburg in their last match.

Steffen Baumgart’s men know that Bayern are weeks away from being crowned as the champions, and the game is an opportunity for them to hold the leaders to grab the necessary points.

Goalkeeper Matheo Raab entered the injury list due to a fractured hand against Freiburg. Frederik Rønnow will start in goal. András Schäfer is suspended for the match.
