Bayern Munich have received a huge blow to their DFB Pokal chances after Manuel Neuer was ruled out of Saturday’s final against VfB Stuttgart.
Sky Germany report that because of a calf injury sustained during Bayern’s 5-1 final day win over Cologne, he will now miss his team’s first cup final since 2020, meaning that Jonas Urbig – who has made 19 appearances across all competitions in 2025/26 – will start in goal.
The 40-year-old complained of a “slight twinge” in his calf and was substituted on Matchday 34 with Saturday’s cup final in mind. However, despite Sky now ruling Neuer out of the final, they state that his recovery is progressing well.
Just one week after signing a contract extension, Neuer was called up to Julian Nagelsmann 26-man Germany squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming out of international retirement. The Bundestrainer also confirmed that Bayern’s custodian would be Germany’s No.1 in the US, Canada and Mexico, with Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann playing back-up.
