Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has questioned the transfer fee that is being attached to VfB Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade, according to Kicker.

Bayern have a verbal agreement with the German international, who also wishes to join the Bundesliga champions this summer.

As reported by GGFN, the 23-year-old striker even turned down offers from Chelsea and Napoli in recent weeks in order to focus solely on joining Bayern.

Despite the player’s eagerness to join the Bavarian club, VfB are in no mood to sell their striker.

With three years remaining on his contract and no exit clause, Stuttgart are free to demand an astronomical fee for Woltemade. As reported earlier, VfB are demanding around €80m-€100m for the player who scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 33 appearances across all competitions last season.

From Bayern’s point of view, they are only willing to spend a maximum of €50m for Woltemade.

Max Eberl isn’t a fan of the numbers that are being thrown around in media reports and believes they can disrupt the transfer process.

“If it’s negotiated in public, it usually won’t lead to a good result.”

Despite Stuttgart’s high transfer demand, the sporting director doesn’t believe that the club are trying to rip off Bayern.

As explained by Eberl: “Our relationship is far too good for that.”

When asked whether Bayern would not get sucked into such high demands, Eberl simply answered in form of a question:

“Is Nick Woltemade worth 80 million?”  When answered with “no,” he nods his head and says: “We’ll see what’s feasible without letting ourselves be carried away.”

When Woltemade returns to pre-season training with Stuttgart, expect the transfer poker to develop even more.
