FC Bayern are pushing ahead with their youth development strategy and have apparently secured one of the most exciting talents from Austria. According to consistent media reports, attacking player Matteo Maric will move from Red Bull Salzburg to Munich in the summer
The 16-year-old midfielder is seen as a great promise for the future and fits in perfectly with Bayern’s current transfer strategy of focusing more on young, developing players
For some time now, those in charge at Säbener Straße have been pursuing the approach of signing talented players at an early stage and training them on campus themselves, rather than exclusively bringing in ready-made stars for high transfer fees
They now appear to have found another promising project in Matteo Maric, with Sky reporting that Bayern scouts are particularly impressed by the youngster’s technical ability and intelligence
Within FCB, Maric is even described as a type of player with similarities to Jamal Musiala
The Austrian junior international is an attack-minded midfielder who stands out above all for his agility, dynamism and dribbling ability. Maric is always actively looking for open spaces between the lines and is not afraid to go one-on-one

In addition to his creativity, Maric also has a great willingness to run. Despite his attacking role, the youngster works consistently against the ball and actively participates in defensive play – a quality that is becoming increasingly important in modern attacking players
Of course, there is still development potential for a player of his age, so the biggest areas for improvement at the moment are decision-making, the final pass and physical robustness
For a 16-year-old youth player, however, these points are considered completely normal
There are currently no plans for Maric to play directly for the professionals; instead, he will initially be trained at the Bayern Campus, where he will take the next step in his development
Those responsible are planning to carefully introduce the talented Austrian with Croatian roots to the professional game.
