Bayern no longer wants him: A transfer from Zaragoza to Barcelona?

Bryan Zaragoza apparently no longer plays a role in FC Bayern’s plans. The winger could now be set to return to Spain.

The German record champions are making major cuts this summer, and one name comes up particularly often: Bryan Zaragoza. The 24-year-old no longer has a future at FC Bayern and has been given permission to leave the club. Coach Vincent Kompany is apparently no longer counting on the attacking player for the upcoming season.

It’s been no secret for a long time that Zaragoza never really found his footing in Munich. In January 2024, the once-promising talent arrived from Granada for around 13 million euros, but he was never able to establish himself at the league leaders. Three consecutive loan spells followed: first to CA Osasuna, then to Celta Vigo, and most recently to AS Roma in Serie A, where the purchase option was ultimately not exercised.

Espanyol is considering a move, but salary and transfer fee are holding them back

Despite this bumpy past, Zaragoza continues to attract interest from Spanish clubs. As reported by the Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Espanyol Barcelona is seriously considering a signing. The La Liga club is said to have already made contact and is reportedly evaluating the Andalusian as one of two wingers targeted for the summer.

However, the deal is still a long way from being finalized. According to Mundo Deportivo, the player’s high salary is the main sticking point in the negotiations.

On top of that, Bayern apparently expects a transfer fee in the range of around 13 million euros—a rather ambitious sum for a player who has been loaned out three times in recent years and has barely played any minutes in the Bundesliga.

His market value is currently estimated at around 12 million euros, and Zaragoza also has a long-term contract with Munich running through 2029. This puts Bayern in a theoretically comfortable negotiating position—but at the same time underscores the urgency of resolving the situation.

For the player himself, a move to Espanyol would be a fresh start in familiar surroundings. Zaragoza knows the Spanish league inside and out and has proven in the past that he can excel at that level. Whether the club can ultimately overcome the financial hurdles, however, remains to be seen.
