Bayern Munich clinched a 35th German title, and a 13th in 14 seasons, by beating VfB Stuttgart 4-2 at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.

Celebrations were notably restrained, with a German Cup semi-final at Leverkusen on Wednesday and a Champions League first leg at Parc des Princes nine days later. L'ÉEquipe notes that the focus shifted quickly to the next assignment.

Vincent Kompany said his players had warned him they did not want lavish festivities and would turn their attention to the cup immediately. He added that the title was never in doubt after Bayern set the pace from the start.

They remain unbeaten away and have lost only once, 1-2 at home to Augsburg on 24 January. No Bundesliga side had previously posted a goal difference as large as +80 since the league’s creation in 1963.

Bayern have scored 109 goals in 30 matchdays, an average of 3.63 per game, surpassing the 1971-1972 benchmark of 101 set by the Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Sepp Maier generation.

Kompany was not the first, second, third or even fourth choice when appointed in July 2024, and his centre-back pedigree gave few clues to such attacking intent.

Uli Hoeness argued that trophies matter more than records, yet he felt eclipsing the club’s long-standing goals mark underlines the team’s potential and relentlessness, and he believes this championship is only the beginning.

Bayern are targeting a treble of cup, league and Champions League, six years after Hansi Flick last delivered it. Harry Kane said the squad are very hungry and, with the Bundesliga secured, they can fully chase the remaining two objectives.
