FC Bayern faces important personnel decisions in the coming weeks. In addition to squad planning, the focus is also on the future of sporting director Max Eberl, whose contract extension is apparently tied to a specific condition.

FC Bayern officials are continuing to move forward with their plans for the coming years. In addition to potential new signings and contract extensions within the squad, the supervisory board is also addressing the future of sporting director Max Eberl.

As BILD reporter Christian Falk reports, the 52-year-old generally has a good chance of extending his contract, which runs through 2027. However, Eberl must first successfully complete a key task.

Player sales will be the litmus test

In August, the supervisory board is set to discuss, among other things, a contract extension for Eberl.

According to Falk, the decisive factor will be whether the sporting director succeeds in permanently removing several players slated for sale from the payroll while simultaneously generating significant transfer revenue.

“Everyone knows it’s difficult to get money for a player like Sacha Boey, who hasn’t really played much for FC Bayern yet. The same goes for Bryan Zaragoza, and Palhinha is too expensive for most clubs,” Falk explained in his column.

Loan deals are not a preferred solution in this regard. “Loan deals are out of the question for FC Bayern, as the club wants to bring in money this summer. Eberl has to sell these players and remove them from the payroll,” Falk said.

Praise for Transfers – Criticism on Other Issues

Internally, Eberl continues to enjoy support despite ongoing discussions. In particular, signings such as Michael Olise and Luis Díaz are viewed positively.

At the same time, however, there is reportedly criticism within the executive suite. According to information from Falk, certain contract extensions, among other things, are being viewed critically, as Eberl is said to have failed to consistently adhere to the prescribed cost-cutting measures.

He is also partly blamed for the free transfers of high-profile players.

Despite this criticism, Christian Falk believes the sporting director remains in a strong position.

“He has a good chance of keeping his job, as there have been some good transfers—but he has to sell!” is the transfer expert’s conclusion.

The coming weeks are therefore likely to be decisive not only for FC Bayern’s squad planning but also for Max Eberl’s personal future at Säbener Straße.
