Before 2026 Edition: The Top 10 Players with Most Goal Contributions in FIFA World Cup History
The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup's officially on. In less than year, the biggest edition in history will kick off across Canada, Mexico, and U.S featuring 48 nation for 1st time since the tournament’s inception in 1930.
While German legend Miroslav Klose still holds the record for most goals scored in World Cup history .. a different list offers deeper look into the tournament’s elite:
The players with the most goal contributions (goals + assists) on football’s grandest stage.
At the top are two of the sport’s greatest icons. Pelee who lifted the World Cup three times (1958, 1962, 1970) leads the all time involvement chart with 21 goal contributions in just 14 match .. a staggering average unmatched to this day.
Sharing the summit with him is Lionel Messi who also boasts 21 goal involvements but across 26 match. The Argentine legend who finally won the trophy in 2022, could break the record outright if he decides to feature in 2026 though he has yet to confirm his plans.
Just outside the top 10, Kylian Mbappe already has 15 goal involvements in 14 match needing just 1 more to equal Maradona’s tally ... a remarkable achievement for player still only 26.
