Corinthians forward Belén Aquino has been named in Uruguay’s 23-player squad for the closing two matches of the Liga das Nações, the competition serving as Conmebol qualifying for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
According to Meu Timao, Uruguay visit Colombia on Friday five June at 20:00 Brasília time at Estádio Pascual Guerrero in Cali, then host Venezuela on Tuesday nine June at Estádio Centenário, also at 20:00.
Uruguay are eighth in qualifying with five points from six games, a record of three defeats, two draws and one win. Only the top two qualify automatically, with third and fourth entering an intercontinental play-off against teams from Asia, Oceania and Concacaf, so progression is considered unlikely.
To keep faint hopes alive, Uruguay would need to win both fixtures and rely on Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador and Chile dropping points. Brazil are already qualified as hosts and are not in the Liga das Nações.
Aquino, 24, joined Corinthians from Internacional at the start of the season and has played 16 times, including eight starts. Her tally stands at three assists and two goals, with nine wins, three draws and four defeats in that span.
Her call-up means she will miss Corinthians’ friendlies against the United States Under-23s on five and nine June. Brazil call-ups Lelê, Thais Ferreira and Duda Sampaio will also be absent. Beforehand, the quartet will link up for the Palmeiras tie on Saturday at 11:00 at Allianz Parque, a single-leg third-round match in the Copa do Brasil Feminina.
