The 2026 World Cup kicks off this week and the Belgian Pro League is well represented. We’ve looked at both the goalkeepers and defenders already, now its time to look at the midfielders representing their countries at the tournament.
Hans Vanaken – Belgium
Hans Vanaken had another fantastic season for Club Brugge. The veteran attacking midfielder hit double figures for goals for the 15th season in a row with 12 in 57 games, alongside seven assists. Club Brugge won the league for the 20th time thanks to Vanaken’s influence and Rudi Garcia has decided to bring the veteran to another major tournament. Vanaken may not be a starter for the Red Devils, but he could have an impact off the bench or slot in if injuries to other creative players hit the camp. Vanaken has 34 caps for Belgium with seven goals.
Yacine Titraoi – Algeria
Yacine Titraoi built on his fantastic debut season in Belgium with another fine campaign for Charleroi. In 42 games the midfielder scored five goals and grabbed three assists. Titraoi offers Algeria a dynamic central midfielder who can get a lot of work done over 90 minutes. The former Paradou AC youngster is unlikely to start, but off the bench he could really help the north African side who are confident of a decent World Cup campaign.
Nathan Saliba – Canada
Anderlecht’s Nathan Saliba showed some positive signs during his first season in European football, playing 45 games with five goals and one assist. The former Montreal man will be part of a Canadian side that is looking to go deep into the tournament as one of the hosts, with plenty of talent up top. Saliba has 15 caps for Canada, with two goals. Even if he doesn’t start, Saliba should get a decent amount of minutes at the World Cup.
Besfort Zeneli – Sweden
Besfort Zeneli only joined Union St Gilloise in January but made a huge impact with his goal against Club Brugge in a victory that looked to have swung the title race towards Brussels. Sadly for Zeneli and Union, Club Brugge roared back to win the league, although Zeneli did pick up a cup winners medal. Not much is expected of Zeneli and Sweden at the World Cup given how they qualified, which could suit them. Zeneli has eight caps for Sweden and will likely add some more during the World Cup.
