Belgium international Divock Origi has retired from football at 31. The player said in an Instagram post on Monday that he was ending his playing career.
He had been without a club for six months following the premature end of his AC Milan contract. His last appearance came in April 2024, a 0-2 defeat at Everton while on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Origi emerged at Lille and, after only one full season, was called up by Belgium for the 2014 World Cup at 19. He joined Liverpool the following year and was never a regular, playing more than 20 matches only in 2016-2017 and 2019-2020.
He spent seven years at Anfield, including a 2017-2018 loan to Wolfsburg. Liverpool supporters cherish his brace in the 2019 Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona, a 4-0 win after a 0-3 first leg, and his goal in the final against Tottenham in Madrid.
In total he made 175 appearances and scored 41 goals for Liverpool, before moving to Milan in 2022. He won 32 caps for Belgium, scoring three times.
